Children’s Park in San Diego, has recently reopened to the public in late 2023 after a two and a half year closure. The park, originally established in 1995, underwent a $9 million renovation in collaboration with Civic San Diego. This revitalization transformed the 1.4-acre space, located along the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade.
Upgrades include a new children’s play area, picnic tables, adult exercise equipment, and an off-leash dog area. The park now also features public restrooms, a multi-use lawn area, new trees, and a revamped walkway through the Civic Pond. Additionally, a vendor building has been added.
A notable highlight of the park is the public art piece by San Diego-based artist Miki Iwasaki. Titled “Petrichor”, this abstract sculpture resembles a cloud floating above the ground, adding an artistic touch to the park’s serene environment.
